For many people today, a career for life is no longer an option. Most people expect to hold jobs with a variety of employers and move across different employment sectors through their working life. While your education and experience may make you eligible to apply for a job, to be successful at the job you will need to exhibit a mix of skills ’employability skills’. This means that the specialist, technical skills associated with different roles may be less important than the ‘soft skills’ that can be transferred between different jobs and different employment sectors. For employers, getting the right people means identifying people with the right skills and qualities to fulfil the role and contribute to the organisation’s success. Candidates may have the qualifications and hard skills needed to be able to manage the job role but without a well-honed set of ‘soft skills’ employers are less inclined to hire.

A talk was organized on the Corporate Employability Skills by The HR Club, Mumbai on August 26,2013. The HR Club is an association of HR Directors, Vice Presidents, Managers and Executives working in the industry. Currently there are more than 40,000 HR members in 31 locations across India. The essence of the talk was – “ In an increasingly competitive employment market, employers are looking beyond simple academic achievement when considering applicants for a job or internship. The keynote speakers were

Ms B.Jayasree – A key member of the club, and the director of MPwoer Business Facilitators Ltd. and is leading the HR practices and coaching of the organisation.

Mr. Srinivasan Iyer – The founder and core committee member of the club, an entrepreneur and a certified NLP trainer from NFNLP, USA.

With this initiative in mind The HR Club TM is organising a Campus2 Corporate National contest along with The Engineers Club, The Managers Club, The Finance Club and TEN India (The Entrepreneurs Network).

The students actively participated in the seminar and the registration rate for the contest as compared to the other institutions was higher in AIMT and the enthusiasm and participation of our students was lauded by the speakers. The HR club team was completely enthralled by the quality of students and commitment they showed in the event. This C2C contest would help the students to groom up their basic skills required to be corporate ready and know the areas of improvement thereby facilitating them to work upon them.
